Holiday Fashion on a Budget :)

As the holidays approach I am reminded of why I love fashion so much~ everything is embellished, sparkly and just plain fun to wear. I recently had the opportunity to go to NYC with my mom over Thanksgiving and let me tell you fellow fashionistas~ do not miss it! NYC is a haven for sharp street style, classic elegance and new and modern trends. New Yorkers aren't just fashionable... they ooze it. Every person I saw walking the streets in the new lace up booties or over the knee boots made me want to move there just a little more (sorry Hubby!:))

That being said I was inspired by some of the following trends I saw there and on the internet...
Black and tan combo- don't Katy and Blake look so fresh and youthful but with a classic elegance to them? Swoon. They are also both rocking a great trend of the moment- lace detailing. I love the femininity it brings to any outfit and Katy and Blake both ground the outfit with clean lines as to not make it too prissy. I love Blake's nude pumps to give the illusion of a longer leg too.

Patterned tights~ anyone tried them? I think they are so cute with a simple dress (in either solid or if you are feeling more daring a print) or with a great skirt. SJP does it great here with a gorgeous grey dress and statement necklace (although her toned legs don't hurt either:))

There are some truly amazing finds right now at New York and Company, Zara and H&M. I think these patterned tights would be great for a night out during the holidays or on NYE.

4th of July Weekend Recap

This post is a doozy.. we had so much fun stuff going on this weekend! Friday night J and I joined Jaime & Craig at PF Changs for Jaime's birthday dinner. It had been raining cats and dogs all day so we were worried about getting flooded out, but we made it! We had a great meal, great conversation, great time. They are truly wonderful friends.

Pretty pregnant birthday girl with Craig :)
Jaime and I outside (see the humidity!)

Saturday morning came around and one of my most anticipated events- DockDogs in Discovery Green Park. For those of you who have never heard of it the dogs compete to see which one can jump the farthest into a pool of water. It was so cool and a really intense competition!

This poor guy did not want to go in at all!!!

Look at the owner... "No seriously, dude... JUMP!" lol.

Judges trying to get the right measurements....

After that intense competition Mom and I made our way to the Grove for lunch. I LOVE that restaurant.. it is so neat looking and makes me calm every time I go there. We had some fabulous salads and of course some wine. :)

Very cool bar at the Grove

Mom & I :)

Mom and I hung out downtown for a while and just chatted. Then our lovely day was slightly ruined because of 2 big, fat, ugly PARKING TICKETS on our windshields. That's right, the City of Houston got us both! Apparently you still have to pay the meter on the weekend and I got slapped with a $65 fee! Ouch!

SO, of course that evening to nurse my pain, the hubs and I made our way to the local mexican restaurant by our house. Yes, we are eating healthy, but let me tell you. Kaci taught me well- I always have one appetizer plate of chips with salsa, 1-2 fajitas with chicken and veggies (flour tortilla if they have it), and skinny margaritas. It was deelish and let's just say the hubs and I had a little too much fun that night that we paid for the next day. :) A great time though.

Sunday we woke up and cleaned around the house because Grandma was coming to stay with us for the next few days. Also we are going out of town on Thursday so I didn't want to leave the place a mess. We made our way down to my parent's house for their 4th of July celebration. It was so much fun to be around our family and all the dogs.

Bella likes margaritas for sure!!!
After her margarita she wanted a nap :)

Later that night we made our way to see fireworks. It was so neat to be with my mom and brother because usually we have been with friends the last few holidays.
In the car on the way to see fireworks :)

My handsome bro
Yes, we bought matching 4th of July shirts. Does that make us a little gay? Yes. Do I care? No.

We were all feeling pretty good at this point (wine/beer all day, wine at the fireworks) and we came home to play this game my brother and mom have been telling me about- ESPN Monopoly. It was a really stiff competition and came down to the hubs and I. Unfortunately for me, he was victorious (I still need to check video on this one).

While we played, the dogs looked like this....

After that really long day the hubs and I slept in late at grandma's house and then slowly made our way down to Galveston. It was nice to just be the two of us. We hung out at the beach, had lunch and later went to the H20 bar at the San Luis pool. If you have never been there- go.. it is so cool. It has a very lounge-esque feel, a full sushi bar, and fabulous drinks. We were pretty slow on any drinks due to our previous day, but we had a great time.

Now I get to spend time with this great lady at my house for a few days before we head to Cali!!!!

I don't think I will blog again until I come back from Cali next week so have a fabulous week/weekend!!!

Baby Emma & Some time with my Mister :)

How cute is he??? The Mister and I took a few quick pics in Discovery Green this past weekend en route to the Ballet (is he a keeper or what?) Side note- I am down 10 pounds here and he is down 5. :) We had so much fun that night.. went out to Damian's Italian restaurant beforehand, split a bottle of red and went over to the ballet. I LOVED it. We say the Wayward Daughter, a ballet that in all my years going I have never seen. The costumes were great and it was funny too~ good since that is about the only thing that could hold the hubby's interest. :) But he is such a trooper for coming and doing things I really love to do. (Don't worry ladies- I made it up to him with a 2 hour.. yes you read that correct.. trip to the Sears tool department). At least he got wine on his outing. :)

HOT husband with some type of power tool :)

Then on Sunday my mom and I hosted a baby shower for my precious friend Jaime who is due with her first baby girl in August. She is so cute! The future mom HATES pink so my mom and I had to get creative by decorating with all yellows and greens.

My mom, Jaime and I
Welcome sign I made for Emma

Pretty, pretty flowers all over :)

I used lemon and limes at the base of this one to add to the color scheme

Her precious cake.. the shower was jungle-themed

After we got finished with the shower the hubs and I took in a comedy show with my good friend Lori to round out the weekend. It was hilarious! Jonathan had never been to this particular comedy club and was tad wary about it but it turned out to be great. We had a few drinks (vodka water with limes (hey we are watching our weight:)) and took some pics with the comedians. They were so good! I will definitely be back!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. This is my first full week off of teaching so I am enjoying getting to rest, workout, tan and prepare homeade dishes every night for my man (oops!:))

Red, Red Wine

So I definitely thought that my social life was going to end when I moved to the.... gasp... Suburbs. I was so used to the inner loop life- museums at my beck and call, fabulous restaurants and bars at every turn.. that the thought of moving to Spring, TX was definitely an idea I had to get used to... and fast. I was convinced I would be in rollers with 5 children by August. :) Dramatic, yes. Would you be scared to?? Ummm yes. :)

Well that all changed when my friend Lori took me out to Brix wine bar last night.. The place is gorgeous. The wine is deelish (and cheap at happy hour). The veggie flatbread we had was to die for. I loved everything about it. It is in this cute little center called VIntage Park (think Highland Village before it blew up).
So turns out, I may like Spring after all. :)
Have a great Thursday!
